'Super Bowl XXXI-XL Collector's Set'
(Various / 5-Disc DVD / NR / 2006 / Warner Bros.)

Overview: Continue your collection with the 4th decade of Super Bowl games! Live the excitement of Super Bowls XXXI - XL and the seasons leading up to each big game in a 5-disc collector's set loaded with defining highlights, enhanced content and exclusive memorabilia.

DVD Verdict: The first three sets are some of the most cherished in my DVD collection, so I've been waiting for this set to come out for some time, a year and a half or so. These sets have awesome season play highlights. Some memorable plays, memorable players, and the road to the Super Bowl. Then, of course, the highlight special of that year's Super Bowl, with special features usually about the winning team of that Super Bowl. Being an Olympia, Washington native - I was not looking forward to seeing the final portion of this DVD set: my home team, the Seattle Seahawks, at Super Bowl XL. It was their first Super Bowl, they hadn't won a playoff game in 20 years - it was one nerve-wrecking post-season for everyone in my area, so many close calls. The NFC championship game comes to mind against the Panthers. For it all to end the way it did at Super Bowl XL. It makes me want to scream. For those of you who don't know what happened (SPOILER) - in many people's opinion: the referee's were on the Pittsburgh Steelers side. The first would-be touchdown of the game was for the Seahawks, but the refs took it away due to a little blocking from the Seahawks' side in the end zone. The Steelers' first touchdown wasn't a touchdown because the guy was clearly one yard away, and put the ball over the end zone line after being tackled. The play was challenged, and the touchdown was allowed. They better talk about that in the highlight video on this DVD set. I will not watch any Steelers victory special features on this set for that game, I refuse to. There was a one-sided distraction in that game which comes to mind. The fact that the Steelers' "terrible towels" were sold to fans in the arena to distract the Seahawks, and (like there should have been) there wasn't a similar item sold to the Seahawks fans to return the favor. Even Seahawks coach Mike Holgrem said that wasn't fair, and he's been to other Super Bowls. That was the first, and not last, game I watched where I wore face paint. So, I was lucky enough for the editor of one of the magazines I happily write for to give me this set for review - and I shall do for all the great season play action, and Super Bowl highlight specials - and will enjoy the Seahawks road to Super Bowl XL regardless! Somehow I will watch the recap of that game. This is a Full Screen Presentation (1.33:1) and comes with the Special Features of:

Two special features from each Super Bowl focused on key players, coaches and story lines from that era
Collectible booklet featuring 10 program covers, Super Bowl rings, rosters and final scores
