'No Money Down'
(Josh Lucas, Roy Scheider, Teri Garr, et al / DVD / NR / (2003) 2006 / Melee)

Overview: With an all-star ensemble cast, 'No Money Down' is a tale of two undaunted guy's search for the ultimate bachelor lifestyle. However, what starts as a simple plan could turn into murder and deception.

DVD Verdict: In 'No Money Down' (aka 'The Definite Maybe') an entrepreneurial bachelor and his loyal best friend strike out on their own to live it up in the Hamptons in directors Sam Sokolow and Rob Lobl's all-star comedy featuring Josh Lucas, Bob Balaban, Al Franken, Ally Sheedy, Teri Garr, and Roy Scheider. 25-year-old New Yorker Eric Traber (Josh Lucas) has just been fired from his job. As if that wasn't enough to get a guy feeling blue, his roommates have compounded his woes by voting him out of the household! But his best friend, Ziggy, shows up A.W.O.L. from the Peace Corps and leads him out to the swank Hamptons for Easter weekend in search of betterment and understanding. Once there, they confront the adult roles of life for the first time; attempted murder, two-faced disloyalty and well-catered cocktail parties! Though Eric hopes to win over the lavish estate that his deceased father had willed to his estranged stepmother, getting the keys to the million-dollar home won't be as easy as he thinks. As Eric and Ziggy's manic quest to realize the American Dream reaches a fever pitch, they soon realize that getting to the top can literally be murder. This is hardly gonna win any Oscars and was obviously done just before Lucas became famous for his role in 'Sweet Home Alabama,' but it is fun and it is not a bad flick to catch on a rainy afternoon. This is a Full Screen Presentation (1.33:1) but does not come with any Special Features.
