'Live at Budokan' [Blu-ray]
(Dream Theater / Blu ray / NR / 2011 / Eagle Eye Media)

Overview: Recorded at Tokyo's Budokan in 2004, the live show features an energetic, raw performance of Dream Theater's music that is by turns intense, beautiful, and aggressive; also included are band interviews and backstage footage.

Blu ray Verdict: If you are a Dream Theater fan, please do yourself the favor of getting this jewel. Sure it may not be the best concert from them from these performances, or musicaly talking to be quite frank, but it is well worthwhile to have on crystal clear blu ray!

Indeed, some may argue about the James performance (after some incident with seafood while vacationing in Cuba, and his vocal cords condition) but it is with no doubts, the best concert they have ever filmed; technically talking!

In this live 2004 performance, Dream Theater are firing on all cylinders as they roll through most of their 2003 release, Train Of Thought. An album that carries on that long standing tradition of masterful musicality that we have come to expect from the band, the set list includes: "Pull Me Under," "Trial of Tears," "Solitary Shell," "Disappear," and "In the Name of God," among many others.

It also comes with the Bonus Material of: 01. Riding On The Train Of Thought (Japanese Tour Documentary), 02. John Petrucci Guitar World, 03. Jordan Rudess Keyboard World, 04. Mike Portnoy Drum Solo, 05. The Dream Theatre Chronicles 2004, 06. Tour Opening Video, and 07. Instrumedley Multi-angle Bonus.

Top the whole thing off with a bunch of behind-the-scenes bonus material and what you get is a must-have disc for fans of the band or fans of music for that matter. This is a Full Screen Presentation (1.66:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs, and has been remastered into a crisp Blu ray production.
