'Harper's Island: The DVD Edition'
(Elaine Cassidy, Christopher Gorham, et al / 4-Disc DVD / NR / 2009 / Paramount)

Overview: A horror-inspired drama, this CBS series is about a group of friends and family who meet to celebrate a wedding on an island just outside Seattle, an island that is famous for a streak of unsolved murders seven years ago. Suspense ensues when they end up dead one by one; has the killer returned or is someone else to blame?

DVD Verdict: 'Harpers Island' is about a group of people that go to an island because a wedding is to take place their. Starting not five minutes in a person is seen (by the viewers) under a boat and is dead. This is what happens throughout the show. In each episode at least one person from the island or the group is killed and everybody else fights for survival and tries to find a way off the island.

Now the premise of the show is not very original. But the creators of the show in an interview did mention that there would at least be one killer. This leaves it fun for the audience to try and piece things together to try and figure out who the killer is.

It's definitely an entertaining show. At times, there is small comic relief. The only problems I found with the show was how some of the characters were extremely illogical. I mean, if I or any other normal person where in the situation these characters were in I think we would have had the common sense to do certain things that these characters failed to do. Another thing about the characters is that there is too many so it is really hard to get to like some of them, let alone remember their names.

Aside from the character thing there was great acting and I hope to see future acting careers become of the cast in this series. I also particularly like how some networks are signing up to have a one season series. This was instead of "Harper's Island" being a 2 hour movie, it was made to be a 13 hour television show which was able to show more in depth story and characteristics of cast. One series I am looking forward to that is going to be similar to this is "Persons Unknown" starring Lola Glaudini (Criminal Minds).

All in all, It was a fun show. I loved trying to decide each episode who the killer was. I think it would be a fun experience for all to watch and will be purchasing my copy. [BG] This is a Widescreen presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
