Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil [Blu-ray/DVD Combo]
(Hayden Panettiere, Glenn Close, et al / 2-Disc Blu ray+DVD / NR / 2011 / Anchor Bay)
Overview: The good... the bad... the Twitchy. The sequel finds our heroine, Red (Hayden Panettiere), training with a mysterious covert group called the Sisters of the Hood. But Red is forced to cut her training short when she gets an urgent call from Nicky Flippers (David Ogden Stiers), the head of the super secret Happily Ever After Agency, aka the HEA.
Blu ray+DVD Verdict: Life has gone on in the Enchanted Forest since 2006's (was it really that long ago?!) animated 'Hoodwinked' humorously reimagined the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood.
In 'Hoodwinked Too', Red (voiced this time by Hayden Panettiere) has gone on to special training to become a Sister of the Hood, like her Granny before her. Detective Nicky Flippers (David Ogden Stiers) has organized most of the remaining characters, notably Granny (Glen Close), the Wolf (Patrick Warburton), and Twitchy the Squirrel (Cory Edwards), into the Happily Ever After Agency to chase bad guys. However, when Hansel and Gretal are kidnapped by an evil witch, a rescue plan goes badly wrong and Granny is also captured.
Red Riding Hood must cut short her martial arts training in a Shaolin-like temple in the clouds to rescue Granny and to save a secret recipe that makes its consumers invincible. She will have to learn to partner with the Wolf, and to face down a conspiracy of evil characters that include a disgruntled witch, some gangster pigs, a scary-looking giant spider, and two unexpected but delightfully nasty villains. She will get welcome help from Kirk the Woodman and his team of yodelers. Boingo the Evil Bunny has a superb cameo in uncanny full Hannibel Lector mode.
'Hookwinked Too' is an entertaining mixture of sight gags, goofy dialogue, sly references to a variety of movies, and plenty of animated action. It features a healthy if overworked moral about working together. The storyline and the dialogue do have a tendency to wander in places, while some of the characters may be frightening to very small children.
'Hoodwinked Too: Hood versus Evil' is highly recommended to fans of the first "Hoodwinked." [DST] This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
