'My Super Psycho Sweet 16'
(Juliana Guill, Lauren McKnight, Chris Zylka, et al / TV / NR / 2009 / MTV)

Overview: “My Super Psycho Sweet 16” tells the story of Madison Penrose (Juliana Guill), a spoiled and beautiful high school queen bee, and Skye Rotter (Lauren McKnight), the class outcast whose father Charlie Rotter committed a series of grisly murders a decade before the movie’s events. Madison’s plans for the ultimate birthday bash are ruined when Skye shows up to get closer to Madison’s ex-boyfriend Brigg (Chris Zylka), but things get really psycho when Charlie returns to crash the party too. .

DVD Verdict: Of course, off the bat we know this flick is a major homage to MTV’s own reality show “My Super Sweet 16,” featuring over-the-top parties for pampered teens. It just has way more blood, guts and beheadings on the menu than it's role model!

From the very beginning of this (obviously) modestly budgeted flick, which (by the way) doesn’t include major stars, focuses on Skye Rotter (Lauren McKnight), who at age 6 saw her dad hatchet up teens at his roller skating rink. He was sent to prison but disappeared after his prisoner van crashed and burned. The rink shut down.

Ten years later, snide, snooty Madison Penrose (Julianna Guill) wants to have her “sweet 16” party at the rink, which is reopened just for her. Skye flirts with Madison’s hot ex-boyfriend Brigg (Chris Zylka) and decides to exorcise her own demons by crashing the party. That’s when the violent imagery runs the gamut from stabbings, slayings, and stranglings ... all the way to a graphic beheading!

Not to knock it too badly, as trust me, this flick knows exactly what level of playing field it is playing on within this business, but it does tackle most all of the horror movie cliches known to man! I mean, simplistic ones you would guess way before the first 5 minutes were up - such as all those teens who make fun of (our) heroine Skye get their come-uppance; and, let's not beat around the bush here, even if you’re lecherous to the underaged bad girl, your future is cloudy!

As for who re-starts the murders back at the Rink, well, if you can't see this ending coming a mile off then you really SHOULD be watching this for its Oscar-winning potential! Mind you, like me, if you KNEW where it was headed (due to guess work) and were still hoping got a twist, well, you're sh*t out of luck there to pal, sorry!
