'Frank Zappa- The Torture Never Stops'
(Frank Zappa / DVD / NR / 2010 / Eagle Records)

Overview: The Torture Never Stops is a live DVD by Frank Zappa, posthumously released in 2008. It's made up of footage from one of Frank's annual Halloween concerts at The Palladium in New York City, on October 31, 1981. Two shows were played that night, and this contains footage from both shows edited together.

DVD Verdict: This 'Frank Zappa- The Torture Never Stops' DVD is certainly an improvement over the program I have on two VCDs! Although I feel a slight twinge of disappoint in the fact(s) that 1) there appears to be no audio option other than 2-channel stereo for this DVD and 2) FZ’s guitar is still going to have that f**king flanger all over it!

Anyhoo, for those that are not in the know, Frank Zappa's New York Halloween 1981 concerts were filmed Live at The Palladium and so this DVD - 'The Torture Never Stops' was created in its entirety by FZ from the original concert production and intended by the Artist as one of 3 Television Specials.

This is the longest version of the three - the others, 'You Are What You Is' and 'Dumb All Over', having actually already aired. So, why these shows and why NY? Well, Halloween was Frank Zappa's favorite holiday, and New York was the site of Frank Zappa Halloween concerts for years!

With a line-up that featured, aside from FZ such notables as Ray White (vocal, guitar), Tommy Mars (keyboards, vocal), Scott Thunes (bass, vocal), Chad Wackerman (drums), Ed Mann (percussion, vocal), Bobby Martin (keyboard, sax, vocal), and the one and only Steve Vai on guitar and vocals, all FZ shows were unique experiences - but this one truly showed us FZ at his improvisational, and innovatively finest.

TRACK LISTING: 1) Black Napkins 2) Montana 3) Easy Meat 4) Beauty Knows No Pain 5) Charlie s Enormous Mouth 6) Fine Girl 7) Teen-Age Wind 8) Harder Than Your Husband 9) Bamboozled By Love 10) We re Turning Again 11) Alien Orifice 12) Flakes 13) Broken Hearts Are For Assholes 14) You Are What You Is 15) Mudd Club 16) The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing 17) Dumb All Over 18) Heavenly Bank Account 19) Suicide Chump 20) Jumbo Go Away 21) Stevie s Spanking 22) The Torture Never Stops 23) Strictly Genteel and 24) The Illinois Enema Bandit

This is a Full Screen Presentation (1.33:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
