Title - 'Regeneration - Volumes 1+2' (Eagle Rock)
Artist - Styx

OK, this release is obviously gonna piss off a lot of Styx fans ... and, at the same time make some nod in agreement that it is an interesting outting. You see, and oddly enough, the best remakes on this 'Regeneration: Volumes 1+2' CD are those done by DeYoung replacement Lawrence Gowan! The track 'Queen of Spades' clearly the best song on this compilation, in my humble opinion, of course.

Tommy's regenerated songs (especially 'Too Much Time on My Hands') just aren't very good, sorry. The overall recording quality is thin and sounds amateur compared to current CD's out there. The production quality is second rate seemingly too. I just don't know why though, unless it was all recorded at home, in the basement, devoid of any and all true recording studIo elements?

Anyway, and aside from that, we do get the Styx music to behold re: soaring vocals, harmonies, power guitar riffs, and solid, catchy rhythms; all produced by someone who knows how to make it sound right - well, for the most part on a good day!

Which makes this latest 'regeneration' of greatest hits just, well, confusing ... and goes a long way to show that, if you'll pardon the HUGE upcoming pun, that they collectively had "too much time on their hands"! I mean, come on now, there are even two Damn Yankees songs on here! Why though?! And they don't compare to the originals, as you'd guess. Sorry guys, but as much as you've always been one of my favorite bands, this just isn't good enough, my friends.
