Title - 'Love & Respect' (Left Angle Records)
Artist - Karney

Anna Karney has just released her new CD entitled Love & Respect this past July 10th (Left Angle Records), and I have to say it is wonderful. Having constructed an album of songs that some might call "poetic phrasings," they truly encapsulate the impact of socio-political themes that (still) surround us today.

Themes include the tale of young war victims, the penalties enforced on those violating marijuana prohibition, the big picture of global warming, and even outsourcing and its affects on workers.

That said, in truth, Love & Respect does sound like an old school vinyl album of Side A and Side B. Ergo, the first side tracks come across as fun little radio songs, whilst the second side step the quality game up ten fold. There just seems to be so much more depth, devotion to the musical cause in the latter half of this great album.

If you are unknown to Karney, well, her music has always contained elements of solid musicianship. Which is why tracks on this new album have elements of so many other musical genres. Such as indie rock, grunge rock, classic rock, and so much more.

The title track begins as simply a voice and an acoustic guitar before orchestrally taking off. I mean, not even halfway through and there are angelic backing vocals and even a trumpet out of nowhere! 'A beautiful Day' is next, before the pumped-up beats of 'Hold On' come forth. The lush 'Across The Planet' then melds into the multi-instrumented Indian sound of 'Wild Green,' before the soft acoustic guitar work of 'Not Lost.'

'Eternity' is next, with the trippy 'Snake Oil Salesman' following close behind. A song that could easily have been a monster hit for a band like Jefferson Starship back in the late '60s and '70s, it is backed by 'Aurora' and the final song on the album, 'On My Knees (Remake).'
