Title - ‘Die Neuen Welten’ (Cleopatra Records)
Artist - Hedersleben

Featuring, unexpected to my mind after listening to the album fully through once, Nicky Garratt from the UK Subs, this second album from Krautrock outfit Hedersleben is one incredibly massive-sounding work of art.

Hedersleben (Kephera Moon - keyboards/vocals; Bryce Shelten - bass; Kati Knox - guest vocal; Nicky Garratt - guitar and Jason Willer - Drums) and hail from Oakland, CA actually originate from having plied their musical trade live in the clubs of Oakland and also, hence the band’s name, The Komische Musik Zentrum Projekt in Hedersleben, Germany.

Friends and working colleagues with Hawkwind’s Nik Turner - some of Hedersleben even played on Turner’s acclaimed album Space Gypsy PLUS they will go out on tour with Turner to support this new album AND back him - Die Neuen Welten (which means The New Worlds) is a musically-aural expedition.

Hedersleben's debut album Upgoer was good, but this follow-up is substantially better - to my ear/mind, of course. It begins with the slowly building nine minute long title track ‘Zu Den Neuen Welter,’ before heading into my personal favorite, ‘(On The Ground) Safe And Sound.’ ‘Nomad World (Dreamstate)’ is next, and the album (or EP, if you still wish) rounds out with both ‘XO5B’ and ‘Tiny Flowers / Little Moon.’

If you’re interested, Hedersleben will also be having signed copies of the new CD album Die Neuen Welten available in August. All the copies sold from their website will be personally signed by Nicky Garratt.

Oh, and FYI, Hedersleben’s 3rd album, slated for recording early next year is to be called The Fall Of Chronopolis and is based on the book of the same name by Barrington J. Bayley. You just can’t keep these guys still for very long!
