Title - 'Last Of A Dyin' Breed' (Roadrunner Records)
Artist - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Lynyrd Skynyrd (pronounced 'lĕh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd) the Southern rock band that released their debut album way back in 1973 is back, bigger and stronger than ever with Last Of A Dyin' Breed.

Led by core members Gary Rossington (guitar), Johnny Van Zant (vocals) and Rickey Medlocke (guitar), along with longtime drummer Michael Cartellone, Skynyrd has recorded an album that continues to build on the legacy that began over 35 years ago in Jacksonville, Florida.

Joining them in the studio and on the road are new bassist Johnny Colt (Black Crowes, Train) guitarist Mark "Sparky" Matejka, and keyboardist Peter Keys - who replaced Powell on the God & Guns tour.

The album kicks off with a fuzzy Southern guitar lead-in before the band chime in for a loud and proud 'Last Of A Dyin' Breed.' As expected, nothing has changed here with regard how Lynyrd Skynyrd approach their music, but every song is unmistakably, and lovingly theirs to own. The quieter, if you will, 'One Day At A Time' is next, and with its funky bass line hook is sure to become an open-top car favorite.

The fact that 'Homegrown' comes across as what Nickelback will sound like in 20 years is a positive (listen to it and tell me I'm wrong!), before the mood changes completely with the piano-intro'd 'Ready To Fly.' Up next is the guitar-funk of 'Mississippi Blood,' a truly balls-out LS track if ever there was! Another set of tight guitar licks introduce us to the powerhaus 'Good Teacher,' before the Southern sway of 'Something To Live For' takes to the fore.

The Southern guitar vibe comes back again for 'Life's Twisted,' a song about just when you think you have life sorted out life teaches you something different (like a flat tire on a Friday), and then comes the foot stomping 'Nothing Comes Easy.' Rounding out the album is the starts-slow, gradually-builds, ends-loud 'Honey Hole,' and then the guitar-picking twang of the medium velocity track, 'Start Livin' Again.'
