Gideon’s Daughter has been together in this incarnation for about a year. With their first EP Hidden Truth available on iTunes, they’ve been writing and touring a lot more than usual.

Take the simple originality of The Civil Wars, the uncommon creative melodies of Mumford and Sons, and the unconventional unexpected instrument work of Flogging Molly. Add some grunging Screaming Trees and emoting Matthew & the Atlas. Put all that on top of the real-deals Johnny Cash and Jack White. Sprinkle in some Ani DiFranco soul songstress and Punch Brothers’ bluegrass. And you’ve got the seeds that sprouted Gideon’s Daughter.

The EP opens with the soaring dual-vocal of 'On My Way.' A track complete with such a lush accompaniment of instruments, at no time is it overwhelmed nor is it underplayed. The track is fun, vibrant and a great way to kick the recording off. Then comes the lead radio track 'Ain't Got Nuthin,' a stronger, foot pounding song that takes us to the darker side of country.

Up next is 'Fire By the River,' before the most beautiful song on the album, the gentleness of 'Going Gone.' A truly stand-out song, its beauty can be found in both its musical base lines and the softness of its lyrical values too. The short guitar-fed 'Prelude' then leads us into the final song on this all-too-short new recording, 'Hidden Truth,' a song that picks up the pace, once again.
