Title - 'Pray For It' [Vinyl]
Artist - July Talk

For those unaware, Canadian alt rock five-piece July Talk stormed in with the flinty radio-ready rock of their debut, followed by the volatile siren songs of Touch, an album of saw toothed pop + convulsing tension.

For album three, the band cracks their equilibrium open to find a thrilling new balance in asymmetry. With Pray For It (out now via Sleepless Records), July Talk (Leah Fay, Peter Dreimanis, Josh Warburton, Ian Docherty and Danny Miles) commits to the possibility of alternate endings, acknowledging the power of vulnerability as a way to begin again.

July Talk’s path has never been through fitting in. Their music, viscerally, blisteringly hot, sliced right through the alternative and rock charts for multiple number one singles.

Their churning and fiercely physical performances make spaces hiss and hum, spit and seethe in glorious, artful abandon.

Side A:
1. 'Identical Love'
2. 'Good Enough'
3. 'Life Of The Party'
4. 'Pretender'
5. 'Pay For It'

Side B:
6. 'Champagne' (w/ James Baley + Kyla Charter)
7. 'Friend Of Mine'
8. 'The News'
9. 'Governess Shadow'
10. 'See You Thru'
11. 'Still Sacred'

This quite magnificent album (and yet, it should be noted, a most definitive departure from their signature sonic identity of amped rock and, at times, ominously disquieting rhythms), kicks off Side A with the almost trumpetering hubris of the haunting 'Identical Love' and follows that with the foot-tappin', hand-clappin', '80s melodies of 'Good Enough.'

The guitar-led, sober undertow of 'Life Of The Party' is next and that's backed by the Robbie Robertson-esque baritone of Peter Dremainis' 'Pretender,' and then the first side rounds out with Leah Fay showcasing her vocal stylizations atop a sinewed bed of electronic orchestrations on 'Pay For It'

Side B opens with the Gospel-infused, addictively soulful 'Champagne' (featuring Juno nominated, multi-diciplanary performer and music creator James Baley and the rock tonalities and pop sensibilities of Kyla Charter) and backs it up with the rhythmic mid-tempo duet 'Friend Of Mine.'

The alt-rockier duo of both the high octane 'The News' and the drum-led roustabout 'Governess Shadow' are up next, with the album closing on the, at times, almost-spoken word, at others, the beautiful hipsway of a couples lone, last, midnight-lit, waterfront dance of 'See You Thru,' and then the almost stoically ethereal, gently industrial, fuzzy electronica of 'Still Sacred.'

Pray For It was produced by Burke Reid (Courtney Barnett, The Drones, Julia Jacklin), Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck, Metz), David Plowman (Brendan Canning, Young Clancy, Michael Rault), Milan Sarkadi (Mute Choir, Said The Whale) and Ben Fox (Film Composer) and was mixed by Rob Schnapf (Beck, Cat Power, Andy Shauf).
