Title - 'No Future - Singles Collection: Sound Of UK 1982'
Artist - Various

For those not in the know, No Future: Complete Singles Collection – The Sounds Of UK 82 (due out August 21st, 2020 via Captain Oi / Cherry Red Records UK) is a 112 track, 4CD capacity wallet, containing every A and B side issued by seminal Punk label No Future Records between 1980 and 84.

This quite magnificent, and highly nostalgic 4CD set, which features the likes of Blitz, The Partisans, The Violators, Red Alert, Attak, Blitzkrieg, The Insane, Peter & The Test Tube Babies and The Blood amongst many others, also houses a booklet that contains info on each single and band along with pictures of each release and sleeve notes by Vive Le Rock’s Andy Peart.

Indeed, of the 29 singles / EP’s issued by the label, 26 made the (then) important Independent Chart.

This second disc features stand out bands such as Blitzkrieg (formed in 1979, they made a distinct contribution to the UK hardcore punk scene, have a strong underground following due to it, and despite the Nazi connotations of the name Blitzkrieg, German for "Lightning-War", they took a fiercely anti-Nazi stance, The Insane (formed in 1979, and released material until 1984), Channel 3 (actually, an American punk rock band from Cerritos, California, formed in 1980), and both Red Alert (formed in 1979, the quartet have recorded seven albums through to 2005), and Crux (formed in early 1981, and lovingly known as the "Nuneaton nutters").

This third disc contains such stand out bands as Crash (formed in 1981, and whose best single release, in my humble opinion, was easily the ferocious 'Kill The Cow'), The Blood (formed in 1982, led by Cardinal Jesus Hate and JJ Bedsore - AKA Colin Smith and Jamie Cantwell - they recorded albums through to 1999), Patrol (purveyors of fine punk rock since the late '70s!), and then comes a veritable hits selection from The Wall.

Formed in 1978, and releasing only two albums until 1982, their original line-up recorded the band's debut single, 'New Way' (which sadly isn't on this compilation), which was issued in April 1979.

Played regularly by BBC Radio 1 disc jockey John Peel, the single sold more than 10,000 copies, and after meeting Paul Cook and Steve Jones, the two former Sex Pistols decided they wanted to work with the band, and produced the next single, 'Kiss the Mirror' / 'Exchange', The Wall becoming the first punk band to be produced by an ex-Pistol! (again, neither of which are on this compilation).

Disc Four:
1. 'COUNTRY BOY ROCKER' – A.B.H.
2. 'WANNA RIOT' – A.B.H.
3. 'SNOW BLINDNESS' – Cadaverous Clan

11. 'NECROARIA' – Screaming Dead

22. 'SCHOOLGIRL JUNKIE' – Screaming Dead
23. 'LILITH' – Screaming Dead
24. 'PAINT IT BLACK' – Screaming Dead
25. 'WARRIORS' – Screaming Dead

The fourth and final disc features such stand out bands as A.B.H. (Actual Bodily Harm, formed in early 1981, split in 1983), Intensive Care (a Scottish quartet that soon became a quintet), Rose Of Victory (a duo who formed in 1982, lasted until 1983, and who reunited under the Rose Of Victory banner for a studio only collaboration thereafter), and then lot of tracks from Screaming Dead.

Formed in 1980, and who have often been characterized as "horror punk", they released several singles and EPs with indie chart success, before splitting up in 1985 - they reformed in 1997; disbanded again in 1999; and reformed in 2014!
