Title - 'Last Christmas: The Soundtrack'
Artist - George Michael / Wham!

For those not in the film know right now, 'Last Christmas' is a new romantic comedy directed by Paul Feig and written by Bryony Kimmings and Emma Thompson; who co-wrote the story with her husband, Greg Wise.

Based on the song of the same name, the film stars Emilia Clarke as a cynical Christmas store worker who forms a relationship with a mysterious man (Henry Golding) and begins to fall for him (Thompson and Michelle Yeoh also star).

The film's stunning soundtrack features three Wham! hits and an amazing 12 George Michael (the legendary Grammy-winning artist, who sold more than 115 million albums and recorded 10 #1 singles over the course of his iconic career) solo songs from throughout his career; including a brand new and never-before-released track 'This Is How (We Want You To Get High).'

1. 'Last Christmas' - Wham!
2. 'Too Funky'
3. 'Fantasy'
4. 'Praying for Time'
5. 'Faith'
6. 'Waiting for That Day'
7. 'Heal the Pain'
8. 'One More Try'
9. 'Fastlove, Pt. 1'
10. 'Everything She Wants' - Wham!
11. 'Wake Me up Before You Go-Go' - Wham!
12. 'Move On'
13. 'Freedom! '90'
14. 'Praying for Time'
15. 'This Is How (We Want You to Get High)'

Well, if you're a lover of all-things George Michael and Wham! you already know going into this soundtrack what you're in for! That said, listening to these songs now having seen the movie and I have to say more and more of them seem to have taken on that Holiday feel, if you know what I mean.

Of course, the movie's title comes directly from Wham!'s 1985 smash-hit of the same name, and George Michael's solo stuff is most definitely the musical glue that not only holds the movie together, but threads a rather delightful story line too.

After the intro of the title track, from then on we get what can only be described as a Greatest Hits collection from the great man and his works through the years.

Opting to lean heavily into his solo career, the film actually uses them at moments throughout where certain things are happening; and not all of them are made clear why until the very end.

Obvious highlights include the much-loved hits, 'Faith', 'Fastlove', 'Freedom ’90', and 'Too Funky' alongside such surprises as 'Heal The Pain', 'Waiting for that Day' and the MTV Unplugged version of 'Praying For Time' (which George himself adored), and the fabulous Older track, 'Move On'.

So, sure, if you are a mega George Michael / Wham! fan or even a casual observer passing through, fans much like yourselves are (most likely) only buying this new album for the never-before-released track, 'This Is How (We Want You to Get High).'

It's been said that when Emma Thompson heard the new track, 'This Is How (We Want You To Get High)', she instantly knew it had to be part of Last Christmas (an extended version will be available on the vinyl version of the soundtrack).

With that in mind then, let's talk about the one track that you, even now, might not have heard of or anything about. The track is, as always, a beautiful lush ballad … that suddenly explodes into a Latin samba with distortion on George's vocals for some reason.

Personally, I wish they had left all the fuzz and Latin vibe off it and kept it clean and, well, George Michael-esque, so to speak.

Recorded in his latter years, perhaps just before he passed away (given that it's never seen the light of day before), sure, ok, it's absolutely worth seeking out for the die-hard fans.

But, maybe everyone else should get one of his prior, and definitive Best Of albums to truly behold the magical vocal beauty of the man gone too soon.
