Title - 'Risen'
Artist - Angel

For those not in the know, Angel is an American rock band from Washington, D.C., United States, formed in the mid-1970s by Punky Meadows and Mickie Jones.

They were signed to Casablanca Records and in a move that worked wonders for them, had the stage image of dressing in white.

Angel was discovered by Kiss bass player Gene Simmons performing at a nightclub and was eventually signed to the same label as Kiss, Casablanca.

Angel's image of dressing in all white was a deliberate contrast to Kiss, which wore black. Angel sported an androgynous image and elaborate stage sets.

Sadly, Angel never achieved mass commercial success but acquired a following as a cult band.

Their first album was the self-titled Angel (1975) and consisted of guitarist Punky Meadows, bassist Mickie Jones, vocalist Frank DiMino, keyboardist Gregg Giuffria, and drummer Barry Brandt.

This lineup would hold for the following two albums, Helluva Band (1976) and On Earth as It Is in Heaven (1977), after which Jones would be replaced by Felix Robinson. =

They made an appearance in the film Foxes (1980) and Frank DiMino sang 'Seduce Me Tonight' on the Flashdance (1983) soundtrack.

DiMino and Meadows departed the band in 1981, and the remaining members brought in vocalist Fergie Frederiksen (later of Toto) and guitarist Ricky Phillips (later of The Babys, then Bad English, then Styx), but this lineup dissolved shortly thereafter.

Now Angel consisting of lead guitarist Punky Meadows, lead vocalist Frank DiMino, rhythm guitarist Danny Farrow, bassist Steve Ojane, drummer Bill Orrico and keyboardist Charlie Calv will be releasing a new studio album, aptly entitled Risen via Cleopatra Records on October 4th, 2019.

1. 'Angel Theme (Prelude)'
2. 'Under The Gun'
3. 'Shot of Your Love'
4. 'Slow Down'
5. 'Over My Head'
6. '1975'
7. 'We Were The Wild'
8. 'I.O.U.'
9. '(Punky’s Couch Blues) Locked Cocked Ready To Rock'
10. 'Turn Around'
11. 'Desire'
12. 'Our Revolution'
13. 'Tell Me Why'
14. 'Don’t Want You To Go'
15. 'Stand Up'
16. 'My Sanctuary'
17. 'Tower' (2019 Bonus Track)

Here on their seventh studio album, containing 16 brand new songs as well as a remake of 'Tower,' this hugely impressive heavy, yet melodic rock album kicks off with their 'Angel Theme (Prelude)' before powering into the rock hard trio of 'Under The Gun,' 'Shot of Your Love,' and one of my own personal favorites off this new album, 'Slow Down.'

The guitar work from Meadows combined with the brilliant drumming backbone from Orrico, all steered by the vocal expertise of DiMino means that this albums sounds as fresh, as vibrant and as alive as you could have ever hoped for.

With a magnificent mid-section that includes the flashback gem '1975,' the mid-tempo rocker 'I.O.U.' and yet another stunning example of just how good Meadows still is on guitar '(Punky’s Couch Blues) Locked Cocked Ready To Rock,' this new album is bursting at the seams to take you lovingly back to an era that has long since been left by the musical wayside.

Simply put, having come together for the first time in over 30 years back in 2017 to mull over this very same project, Meadows and DiMino have brought forth an album of genuine quality here.

Rounding out with cuts such as the AOR vibe of both 'Tell Me Why' and 'Don’t Want You To Go,' the anthemic 'Stand Up,' and then finally both 'My Sanctuary' and a re-recording of their classic epic 'Tower,' if you are anything like me - a lover of genuine rock from days gone by - then you will simply re-hit Play and allow yourself to be taken back to better times, my friends.

Says Meadows: "I am very proud of this album and ANGEL fans will LOVE it! It really kicks ass and is very diverse with songs that will satisfy every ANGEL fan and take you on a musical journey!"

"The band played their asses off! Play it from top to bottom, you will not want to miss a beat."

Adds Dimino: "This is an album that will take you on a journey to many different roads, all exciting. Enjoy it and play it loud!!!"

Angel is available on both CD and in a very special gatefold 2LP set on, what else, WHITE vinyl!
