Title - 'No Good Deed'
Artist - Mindi Abair and The Boneshakers
For those not in the know, one of the most recognized and sought-after saxophonists/vocalists, two-time GRAMMY nominee Mindi Abair has been electrifying audiences with her dynamic live performances and utter command of the saxophone since her debut album in 2000.
No one since Junior Walker has brought saxophone and vocals in one package to the forefront of modern music, with a raucous tone and dynamic stage presence.
Indeed, she has garnered ten #1 radio hits, six Top 5 solo records and two #1 spots on the Billboard album charts and in 2014 Mindi received her first GRAMMY® nomination in the Best Pop Instrumental Album category.
That was followed by a 2015 GRAMMY® nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for her solo LP Wild Heart featuring Gregg Allman, Joe Perry, Trombone Shorty, Booker T. Jones, Keb’ Mo’, and Max Weinberg.
The daughter and granddaughter of working musicians, Abair continues to captivate fans while evolving her sound for in 2014, after two seasons as the featured saxophonist on the hit series American Idol, Abair released Wild Heart.
This LP showcased a compilation of grittier rock and soul tracks featuring some of the biggest names in music and to help translate this sound to her live shows, Mindi enlisted longtime friend and The Boneshakers founder Randy Jacobs (Bonnie Raitt, Was Not Was, Willie Nelson) to inject his brand of Detroit Blues Rock.
The collaboration was undeniable, and it lead to an almost immediate decision to join forces creatively.
Which is why we are here today to make you aware that Mindi Abair and The Boneshakers - featuring Abair (Saxophone, Vocals), Jacobs (Guitar, Vocals), Rodney Lee (Keys), Ben White (Bass, Vocals), and Third Richardson (Drums, Vocals) - are releasing a wonderful new album entitled No Good Deed on June 28th 2019 via Abair’s very own Pretty Good For A Girl Records.
1. 'Seven Day Fool'
2. 'No Good Deed Goes Unpunished'
3. 'You Better Run'
4. 'Sweetest Lies'
5. 'Good Day for the Blues'
6. 'Mess I'm In'
7. 'Bad News'
8. 'Movin' On'
9. 'Who's Gonna Save My Soul?'
10. 'Baby, Get It On'
The follow up to their critically-acclaimed Blues chart-topping album, The EastWest Sessions, which won 8 Independent Blues Awards including Artist of the Year, an Independent Music Award for Best Blues Song Fan Award and a Blues Music Award Nomination for Best Instrumentalist: Horn, No Good Deed kicks off the musical roadshow with the twangin' guitar and piano beauty 'Seven Day Fool.'
Next up is the foot stompin' 'No Good Deed Goes Unpunished' which is in turn backed by both the drum-led and B3 organ driven powerhaus 'You Better Run' and the heartfelt ballad 'Sweetest Lies.'
The southern dancefloor hipsway of 'Good Day for the Blues' is one of my own personal favorites here and that's followed by the Sheryl Crowesque blues funk of 'Mess I'm In' and then the stunning picked guitar work of the down low blues vibe on 'Bad News.'
The album then rounds out with some funky slap bass entwinned seamlessly with electric guitar on 'Movin' On,' a dose of low-fi gospel in 'Who's Gonna Save My Soul?' and then the foot-tappin' B3 organ, guitar, and saxophone brilliance of the Abair and Jacobs rockin' duet, 'Baby, Get It On.'
Here on No Good Deed Mindi Abair and The Boneshakers expand musically past what an expected Blues Rock album sounds like and that is going to please and excite all their fans (and music lovers, in general).
It's another chapter for this raucous powerhouse band mixing stomp your feet blues rock anthems alongside lyrical vulnerability and musical depth.
So buy your copy the moment it gets released, put it in your car, hit play, put the windows down, open the sun roof, slide your sunglasses into position and drive (safely) to wherever it is you are headed that day with a huge smile on your face and a new zest for life!
